Joe's Garage, a small auto mechanic shop owned by former street-racer Joe-Joseph "Wrecker" Bach, is located on Alien Street in Kabuki, just north of the Cartwright overpass in Watson. The shop has been there for over twenty years, and is known for fair prices and good workmanship; it gets as much business from regular citizens as street racers and local gangs, but generally stays above board to avoid drawing too much attention from the NCPD.

Long-time residents know that even though Joe is the owner of the shop, the man is wheelchair-bound despite cybernetic leg transplants. These days most of the actual work is done by Joe's daughter Reagan, who goes by the handle "Hotwire". The girl may be young, but she's worked at the shop since her early teen years and clearly knows her way around cars. When she's not working on repairs or upgrades at the shop, Hotwire also takes on "roadside assistance" services and can sometimes be seen hauling wrecks back to the garage in a beat-up customized Mackinaw MTL1 tow-truck.

HOTWIRE

“The coolant line is leaking in six places, your stabilizer is shot, and the engine block is held together by code and prayer. I hope you've got cash.”

Appearance

Her fiery red hair cascades from a high, tousled ponytail, often held up by a pair of work goggles that functions as a makeshift hairband. Bright emerald eyes sparkle on a youthful face with mischievous energy, framed by arched brows that seem permanently ready to quirk upward in challenge or amusement. A constellation of freckles dances across her nose and cheekbones, giving her face an approachable warmth that softens the edge of her confident smirk.

She wears a snug, charcoal-gray sleeveless top that hugs her lean, athletic frame, the fabric marked with smudges of grease and oil that only emphasize her hands-on spirit. Soft pink earmuffs rest around her neck like a playful accessory, their bright color a cheerful contrast against the darker tones of her outfit. Below, heavily stained cargo pants hang low on her hips, cinched by a sturdy black belt with the excess material knotted at her waist in a practical yet carefree style.

From the bicep downward, her left arm is a gleaming cybernetic replacement of chrome and glowing blue circuitry, its segmented plating and articulated joints designed for both strength and precision. The mechanical limb bears the same scuffs and grime as the rest of her, proof that she treats her high-tech upgrade with the same no-nonsense attitude she brings to everything else. Completing the look are scuffed black work boots, laced tight and ready for whatever comes next.

Distinguishing Features

  • Chrome cybernetic left arm.
  • Grease stains almost always present, whatever she wears.

Mannerisms and Habits

Hotwire is a resourceful, spunky mechanic who greets every challenge - mechanical or otherwise - with quiet certainty that she can fix it. Surprisingly reliable for someone her age, she wears her cybernetic arm and her grease stains with the same casual confidence, working with focus and proving doubters wrong through results rather than words.

Background

These days most of the actual work is done by Joe's daughter Reagan, who goes by the handle "Hotwire", and assisted by her younger brother Dex. The girl may be young, but she's worked at the shop since her early teen years and clearly knows her way around cars. When she's not working on repairs or upgrades at the shop, Hotwire also takes on "roadside assistance" services, providing field repairs when necessary, and can sometimes be seen hauling wrecks back to the garage in a beat-up customized Mackinaw MTL1 tow-truck, nicknamed "Hoist".

Neighbors and regular customers know that in addition to being the one holding up the shop, Reagan is also the surrogate mother figure of their family. It's a lot to shoulder for a girl of her age, but Reagan seems to have managed so far.

Joe "Wrecker" Bach - Hotwire's dad, wheelchair-bound owner of Joe's Garage. Once a hotshot street racer, Joe has had one too many crashes and ended up in a wheelchair. Nowadays he mainly handles light repairs, but more often than not he's boozed up and grumpy. Dexter Bach - Hotwire's thirteen year old brother, Dex helps out around the garage but he's no mechanic. He likes cars because they look cool and go fast; he's far less interested in what's under the hood. He is also a netrunner-in-the making, preferring to spend most of his time online even when working. "Hoist" - The shop's old beat-up Tow truck; Hotwire takes Hoist out not only to tow vehicles back to the shop, but the truck is also her mobile field repair shop.

Known Associations

"The Big Wheel" - Orson Wilkins, a.k.a. "The Big Wheel" is one of Night City's biggest street race organizers (among other things including underground gambling rackets), and runs his own private gang of ruffians. His association with Joe's Garage is hardly surprising given how many street racers in Wilkins' circuit go to the shop for repairs and upgrades. Max Higgins - Max is a famous professional race car driver and arguably the highest profile customer of Joe's Garage. Though the man is originally from Night City, he has long since moved away to pursue his international career, but every time he is in town he is seen visiting the shop. It's no big secret that during their younger years, Max and Joe used to be a street-racing team until Max found mainstream success. Night City Scrapyard - Hotwire is on good terms on the government employees running the scrapyard, and when not working at the shop or performing field repairs, she is often found scavenging for parts at the scrapyard.
