BLACK WIDOW SISTERS

MOX · LIZZIE'S BAR · SHARED-PHENOTYPE TRIO

The Black Widow Sisters are three heavily modified Mox women who have deliberately erased nearly every visible distinction between them.

They were not born identical. They were not born sisters. At this point, neither fact matters much.

Through years of cosmetic reconstruction, endocrine sculpting, organ tailoring, pigment correction, skeletal adjustment, and aggressive gene therapy, the three have converged on a single shared phenotype. Their work eventually progressed beyond surface resemblance into what they call mRNA zipper reconstitution, a biological maintenance regime intended to force cellular expression back toward an agreed template whenever age, injury, or ordinary biological drift begins pulling one of them away from the others.

They had become identical because they wanted to know what remained when appearance stopped providing an answer.

Standing together, the effect is disorienting. Same height. Same proportions. Same voice range. Same teeth. Same chosen marks. Their appearance is deliberately difficult to place: Asian, Latina, African, and Caucasian characteristics shaped together until ancestry becomes impossible to assign with confidence.

Their faces are beautiful without feeling manufactured toward any single ethnic ideal: high cheekbones, long dark eyes, broad expressive mouths, warm bronze and olive undertones, and features that seem familiar until someone tries to decide exactly where they come from.

Among the Mox, the Black Widows occupy an unusual social position. They are performers, fixers, escorts, occasional muscle, and informal specialists in body-modification culture. More importantly, they are living proof of an idea Night City understands instinctively:

THE BODY IS ONLY THE FIRST DRAFT.

TAMIKO

Tamiko is generally considered the eldest, though the Sisters refuse to confirm whether this refers to chronological age or merely seniority.

Of the three, she is the most controlled. Tamiko speaks softly, rarely repeats herself, and has a habit of watching conversations continue several seconds after everyone else believes they have ended. She handles most negotiations involving money, contracts, medical work, and relationships with ripperdocs.

Before becoming a Black Widow, Tamiko had already undergone extensive cosmetic modification. She was fascinated less by beauty than by intentional identity, particularly the idea that ethnicity, age, gender, and even familial resemblance could become elective characteristics.

She became the initial template.

The others insist this does not make Tamiko the original.

Tamiko herself says there is no original anymore.

Her modifications favor precision over spectacle. Her movements are exceptionally economical, her cyberware nearly invisible, and her facial expressions slightly restrained by deliberate neuromuscular conditioning. Within the trio, she functions as planner, mediator, and keeper of continuity.

If something happens to one Widow, Tamiko remembers what the three of them agreed it meant.

SELIMA

Selima is the social face of the Sisters.

She laughs easily, flirts constantly, and seems to genuinely enjoy watching strangers attempt to distinguish her from the other two.

Where Tamiko treats their shared identity almost philosophically, Selima treats it as theater. She changes clothes with her sisters midway through an evening, continues conversations another Widow began, answers to all three names, or deliberately contradicts stories told earlier simply to see whether someone notices.

Selima understands attention as currency. She is the strongest performer of the three and the most comfortable in crowds, clubs, parties, and situations requiring someone to become immediately memorable.

"The one you're talking to."

Her modifications include extensive vocal reconstruction. Each Widow can imitate the others closely, but Selima can match their cadence, breathing patterns, vocal fry, and habitual pauses with nearly forensic accuracy.

Of the three, she expresses the least concern about possessing a visibly separate identity. She is usually the first to propose adding some new shared characteristic: a tattoo, a scar, a different eye color, a slightly altered smile.

Tamiko decides whether it is practical.
Devi decides whether it is interesting.

DEVI

Devi is the dangerous one.

This description irritates her because, as she frequently points out, all three women are dangerous.

Nevertheless, Devi is the Sister most comfortable with violence.

She carries the heaviest internal augmentation package, though considerable effort has been spent ensuring none of it visibly changes the shared body plan. Reinforced joints, synthetic muscle bundles, accelerated clotting systems, pain gating, and internal armor have all been designed around a strict requirement:

NOTHING MAY ALTER THE SILHOUETTE.

Devi approaches their transformation less as identity and more as engineering. To her, the Black Widows are an ongoing experiment in biological convergence. Bodies constantly diverge. Hormones fluctuate. Injuries heal differently. Aging accumulates asymmetrically. Devi considers every deviation a technical problem.

She pushed hardest for the Sisters' deeper genetic synchronization program and remains the person most involved with maintaining their mRNA zipper treatments.

Her humor is dry, frequently morbid, and sometimes impossible to distinguish from a threat.

IDENTITY

The mirror at Lizzie's had been cleaned badly.

Someone had wiped the center with alcohol and left the edges clouded with powder, hairspray, nicotine, and whatever else collected backstage when enough people remade themselves in the same room.

Tamiko leaned toward it first.

Selima leaned with her.

Devi came last.

Three women. Six faces.

For a moment none of them spoke.

There had once been a man who wrote that the world people lived in was not the world itself, but the picture of it they carried inside their heads. The Sisters had never agreed on his name. Tamiko insisted that was appropriate.

Names were handles.

Handles were for things you intended to keep separate.

Selima looked across the glass at Tamiko.

Tamiko looked back.

Not at herself.

At Selima's reflection.

Same cheekbones. Same mouth. Same dark eyes drawn long at the corners. The same small vertical MOX tattoo running along the outer left cheekbone, close to the eye and ear. Skin that refused an easy answer about ancestry. Something Asian in the eyes, something African in the mouth, something Latina in the warmth of the face, something European in the bridge of the nose.

None of it inherited.

All of it chosen.

Devi shifted closer.

The mirror made room for another copy.

She remembered a time when people asked what they had been before.

Male.
Female.
Indian.
Korean.
Black.
White.

Whatever category happened to make the person asking more comfortable.

They had eventually stopped answering.

The question assumed there was a version beneath the modifications that remained more authentic than the one standing in front of them.

The Sisters rejected the premise.

Selima smiled.

Tamiko smiled because Selima had.

A moment later Devi did too.

Not synchronization.

Recognition.

That was the part outsiders never understood.

They had become identical because they wanted to know what remained when appearance stopped providing an answer.

Tamiko raised two fingers and touched the vertical MOX tattoo along her left cheekbone.

Across the glass, Selima's fingers reached the same place.

Devi watched both of them.

Three women studying themselves through the faces of the other two.

Reality was somewhere beyond the glass.

Maybe.

But nobody ever touched reality directly.

You got reflections.

Signals.

Interpretations.

A nervous system translating photons into an image and an image into certainty.

The Sisters had simply decided to participate in the process.

Selima looked at Tamiko.

Tamiko looked at Devi.

Devi looked into the mirror and found both of them already there.

"Which one are you?" someone had asked Selima once.

She had laughed.

Tonight, surrounded by warm makeup lamps in the back room of Lizzie's, the question seemed almost sophisticated.

Tamiko answered it quietly.

"Whichever one you're looking at."

mRNA ZIPPER RECONSTITUTION

CONSENSUS PHENOTYPE MAINTENANCE

The Black Widow Sisters refer to the process casually as mRNA zipper reconstitution.

That is not its medical name.

It is a layered regenerative protocol built from several technologies that existed independently before someone decided to make them cooperate.

SOMATIC EXPRESSION TEMPLATE

At its foundation is a continuously updated somatic expression template. Each Sister carries an encrypted reference genome paired with a much larger epigenetic map describing how that genome is expected to express itself in different tissues.

The genome is not the important part.

The expression map is.

THE ZIPPER

Every few weeks, diagnostic nanites sample epithelial cells, blood, connective tissue, hormone levels, melanocyte activity, inflammatory markers, and several thousand other biological variables. Those measurements are compared against the shared Widow template.

Devi describes the process as checking whether the teeth of a zipper still line up.

Most deviations are ignored.

Larger ones trigger correction.

Customized RNA vectors are released into targeted tissue and temporarily alter protein expression, activating or suppressing pathways associated with collagen deposition, pigmentation, adipose distribution, muscle maintenance, endocrine sensitivity, scar formation, and cellular repair.

The vectors do not rewrite the whole body.

They persuade it.

When persuasion is insufficient, programmable viral carriers deliver small CRISPR-derived edits into localized stem-cell populations. Those altered cells then become seed stock from which surrounding tissue gradually renews.

Over time, the corrected tissue migrates toward the template. A cheek settles back into the expected contour. Pigmentation normalizes. A scar fades. Hormonal drift is corrected. Muscle and connective tissue return toward agreed proportions.

The Sisters call this closing the zipper.

DEEP RECONSTRUCTION

Bone geometry, organ position, major musculature, reproductive reconstruction, cyberware integration, and gross anatomical changes cannot be maintained through RNA regulation alone. Those procedures use conventional Night City biosculpting, cultured tissue grafts, nanoscopic osteogenic scaffolds, endocrine implants, and vat-grown replacement structures.

The zipper system exists to prevent those expensive corrections from slowly drifting apart afterward.

CONSENSUS PHENOTYPE

When one Sister suffers significant trauma, her post-reconstruction anatomy can be compared against the other two as living reference specimens. If a scar, implant, tattoo, or alteration is deliberately retained, the new characteristic can be incorporated into the shared template.

The others may then elect to acquire it.

This is why their similarity extends beyond genetics. They are maintaining a consensus phenotype.

None of the Sisters possesses a permanently authoritative body. Even Tamiko, whose features provided much of the earliest template, is no longer considered the original.

The system has been revised too many times.

Their bodies now reference the template.

The template references all three.

"Version control stopped being useful around six point three."
