Profile

Michael Buchanan is a Solo, brawler and bodyguard from Pacifica. He escaped Sherman Disposal Center in 2076 after seven years inside and returned to Night City. Avoiding his former Animals crew, he needs money to replace the chrome stripped from him.

His usual clothes are a black long-sleeved, three-button Henley, loose brown leather bomber with black lining, relaxed sky-blue jeans and black leather combat boots. The clothes leave room to move; the boots lace above his ankles, with heavy soles and plenty of tread.

Appearance

At around six foot five (195 cm), Buchanan has immense shoulders and a thick, heavyweight build. His dark, clean-shaven face has green eyes, a slightly crooked nose, a strong, projecting jaw and full lips set in a habitual sneer. Very short black hair is buzzed into a narrow near-mohawk; his left ear bears mild, permanent cauliflower damage.

He moves slowly and heavily, rough and blunt in manner, with little need to impress anyone. Seven years in prison made him colder and more patient.

Background

Born in Pacifica in 2034, Buchanan was nine when rival boosters left his mother, who ran with a low-tier Animals crew, bleeding out in a flooded parking structure. His father absent, the Animals took him in. Big, mean and quick with his fists by sixteen, he worked as muscle and a bodyguard, collected debts, pimped and fought in old resort pits. Better-paid underground fights bred overconfidence and riskier gang jobs.

During his crew's 2069 hijacking, a Texas-bound Militech AV crashed, killing two members. Too injured to resist police, he was stripped of his chrome and imprisoned in Sherman Disposal Center, a sprawling, for-profit prison that treated inmates like industrial waste.

Sherman

For seven years, Buchanan fought in the yard and the showers, for food, space and survival. He learned to be harder, meaner and more patient than the men around him. During one week when the food airdrop failed to arrive, he resorted to cannibalism. Prison left him colder than the ganger who had entered it.

Escape

In 2076, a riot gave Buchanan a way out: a compromised maintenance tunnel and a poorly watched prisoner transport. He escaped, leaving three more bodies behind, and returned to Night City to disappear. For now, he avoids the Animals, expecting the NCPD to watch his old crew. He needs to stay free, make eddies and replace his chrome, hoping he has learned enough to avoid being caught the same way again.
